The 2022 season of great tennis continues. In about a month it will be time for the appointment with Miami, where a Masters and a WTA 1000 will be played. It will be played on hard courts and seven Azzurri are already present in the main draw.
Novak Djokovic is on the entry list of the men’s tournament, but we will hardly see the Serbian play in the United States without the vaccine. Hence the number one seed will most likely be Daniil Medvedev. In addition to the Russian we will see many other big names on the field: starting with Stefanos Tsitsipas and Rafael Nadal, passing through the Azzurri Matteo Berrettini (in the hope that he will recover better from the injury in Acapulco) and Jannik Sinner and arriving at Andrey Rublev and Casper Ruud and Felix Auger-Aliassime. Very interesting is the presence of Dominic Thiem, who will probably return from Indian Wells, Masters 1000 which will take place in the days before the Miami tournament.
As can be seen from the entry list, not only Berrettini and Sinner will be the Italians on the pitch. Lorenzo Sonego, Fabio Fognini and Lorenzo Musetti are in fact already included in the main draw, while Marco Cecchinato will try to make his way in the qualifiers.
In the women’s field, the number 1 seed will in all likelihood be Ashleigh Barty. They will try to stop the Australian Aryna Sabalenka, the Czech Barbora Krejcikova, the Spanish Paula Badosa and the Czech Karolina Pliskova, as well as, of course, many outsiders. In Italy , Camila Giorgi and Jasmine Paolini are already included in the main draw. Martina Trevisan will start from the qualifications instead.
