Swimming, the qualification criteria for the 2024 Paris Olympics. The complete guide


We are preparing for a new adventure in view of the Paris 2024 Olympics . Swimming will be one of the reference disciplines of the Games. of the Olympics. There will be no shortage of emotions about what will happen in the transalpine Five-Circles tank. We therefore provide you with the information currently known regarding the conquest of the Olympic pass and we trust in an Italy as protagonist as in Tokyo.

THE COMPETITIONS – There will be 35 tests in the program: 17 men’s, 17 women’s and 1 mixed events. Here are all the races that are valid for both men and women, except for the mixed mixed relay where obviously two men and two women will be at the start: 50m freestyle, 100m freestyle, 200m freestyle, 400m freestyle , 800m freestyle, 1500m freestyle, 100m backstroke, 200m backstroke, 100m breaststroke, 200m breaststroke, 100m butterfly, 200m butterfly, 200m mixed, 400m mixed, 4 x 100m freestyle, 4 x 200m freestyle, 4 x 100m mixed, 4X100 mixed mixed.

LIMIT TIMES – For each race there can be a maximum of two athletes per country for a total of 56 athletes (28 men and 28 women) while, obviously, a relay country. For each of the events the International Federation (Fina) will establish the time limits for the qualification which are not yet available. However, in the case of Italy, the same Fin will make available a list of time trials to be obtained for the individual qualification.

EVENTS TO OBTAIN THE PASS – The times will probably be valid from 1 March 2023 to 31 May 2024 for what concerns the individual races and can be scored in all the events recognized and approved by Fina.

RELAYS – As regards the relays, for each race there can be a maximum of 16 nations at the start for a total of 112. And it will be the World Cup that will be held in Japan, in Fukuoka in 2023, or those of Doha 2024 (to be clarified) to give passes for the first 12 per race while for the other four it will be based on what has been obtained in the period reserved for the Olympic qualification, which runs from 1 March 2023 to 31 May 2024 (probably). The best four times will be automatically qualified.
