MotoGP, Argentina GP 2022. Aleix Espargarò and Aprilia dream of their first success. Italy relies on Luca Marini

Despite the delays accumulated by cargo planes in the transfer of the two-wheeled Circus from the Far East to South America, the Argentine Grand Prix , the third act of the 2022 MotoGP World Championship , will regularly start on Sunday 3 April . The start is scheduled at 20.00 Italian and will see Aleix Espargarò start from pole position.

Yesterday the Spanish veteran proved to be absolutely untouchable , commanding the times table both at the end of FP2 and qualifying, where he also achieved the best performance in both time attacks in which he competed. In short, a clear supremacy on the flying lap, which allowed Aprilia to obtain the first pole position in the premier class since 2000 , when 500cc was still used.

Clearly, the 32-year-old Iberian’s dream is to confirm himself even today. It would be a doubly historic result, because neither he nor the Noale manufacturer have ever won . Indeed, a success of the Catalan would be sensational. We are talking about a rider who made his debut in the World Championship in 2004 and set foot in MotoGP in 2009. In 283 diluted starts in all three classes, he has not yet passed the checkered flag first! “It is never too late” Oreste Gasperini taught in the 1960s, but certainly Aleix’s eventual affirmation would be thunderous. Victory, however, is still to be won.

MotoGP starting grid, Argentina GP 2022: Espargarò on pole with Aprilia, Luca Marini 3rd. Bastianini and Bagnaia in the fifth row

Not that Aprilia appeared to have difficulty in terms of pace, on the contrary. But we know well how the race is a different kettle of fish compared to the flying lap and in this sense there is no shortage of contenders for success, starting with that Fabio Quartararo who will have a poisoned tooth after being hindered by Jack Miller during his time attack. . The Frenchman will start from the sixth box, but the impression is that he may have the pace to try to impose himself. The start will be fundamental , because if Aleix Espargarò were to have a free track in front of him and El Diablo found himself in the middle of the group, then we would have the dream scenario for Aprilia.

Never underestimate the Suzuki , as usual, underperforming on the flying lap. Alex Rins and Joan Mir will start from the third row, trying to find the usual great comeback. Watch out for the other Espargarò too. Pol is fourth on the grid and without Marc Marquez Honda is relying on him to collect a significant result, which would also allow him to advance a preliminary candidacy for the World Championship.

Italy relies on Luca Marini , splendid 3rd yesterday. Will Valentino Rossi’s brother be able to confirm himself at the highest level even in the race, at least for a placement in the top five / six? The other tricolor centaurs, on the other hand, are very late. Francesco Bagnaia , 13th, fails to tame his Ducati, runaway from the bumps of Rio Hondo. Enea Bastianini , 14th, will try to assert his proverbial ability to manage the tires well to progressively get back on top. Will he succeed? We will find out at 20.00 today, when the race starts.
