The hopes of Jeffrey Herlings, reigning world champion in MXGP and undisputed symbol of KTM in motocross, seem to have almost vanished (even before starting) after the retirement of Tony Cairoli at the end of 2021.
The Dutch phenomenon, who injured his heel on 31 January while landing from a jump during a training session in Spain, has confirmed that he will be out for a long time and will have to give up several Grands Prix at the start of the season.
“ The wound will most likely heal 100%, but the injury came at the wrong time. We will certainly lose some races. I don’t know how many it will be for now. It could be two or even four. I have no idea. It could be more or it could be less. I just want to get back to health. When I am perfectly healed, I will see what can still be done , ”declares the 27-year-old native of Geldrop (source: MX Vice).
“ I had stitches on my heel until a few days ago. Now I have to avoid putting pressure on my foot for about six weeks . I will start physical training again next week with some activities like swimming. I’d like to be on the track already, but I’ll be back soon , ”concludes Herlings.
“Dutch Bullet” in the past has already accustomed all fans to almost miraculous recoveries, but in this case even the World Championship calendar is not on its side with the first 6 rounds of the season scheduled in less than two months.
