Moto2, Argentina GP 2022: Celestino Vietti chasing the third consecutive podium to stay on top of the World Championship

After the double Asian appointment at the opening of Lusail and Mandalika , the World Championship moves to America to face the third round of the season. This weekend the Termas de Rio Hondo circuit returns to host the Argentine Grand Prix for the first time since 2019, due to the consequences related to the pandemic.

In Moto2 the expectation of Italian fans is all for Celestino Vietti, championship leader with 45 points (out of the 50 available) thanks to the victory in Qatar and second place in Indonesia. The twenty-year-old Piedmontese of Team Mooney VR46 is hunting at this point for the third place on the consecutive podium to keep the top of the general classification and above all to send an unequivocal signal to the rest of the competition from a world championship standpoint.

Vietti comes to South America with an advantage of 9 points over the Spanish Aron Canet (2nd and 3rd in the first two GPs) and 16 over the British veteran Sam Lowes (3rd and 4th between Lusail and Mandalika), while all the others pursuers accuse a gap already greater than 20 points. Among these also some great candidates for the world title such as Augusto Fernandez (5th at -21) and Pedro Acosta (10th at -34).

MotoGP, Argentina GP 2022: numbers, statistics, curiosities. Race with a troubled history, often prey to Honda

The Iberian couple of Team Red Bull KTM Ajo, despite a start to the season below expectations, remains extremely formidable in perspective and both riders will be able to play a leading role already in the three-day Termas de Rio Hondo. Worth noting among the possible outsiders for the top positions are the various Somkiat Chantra (back from the sensational exploit in the Indonesian GP), Ai Ogura, Jorge Navarro, Fermin Aldeguer and the blue Tony Arbolino.
