The wait is finally over . Cycling has resumed its pace in the Bel Paese and it was up to the Laigueglia Trophy to kick off the dances of the national circuit. The famous Ligurian race, now in its 59th edition, therefore gave teams and riders the opportunity to test their pedal stroke and get involved for a prestigious success.
25 teams are at the start, including eight from the World Tour , demonstrating a high technical level. A 202-kilometer route was tackled, starting and finishing in Laigueglia characterized by a first flat part, for about 30 km, only to then climb to the Cima Paravenna GPM and, subsequently, tackle the difficult steep of Testico .
We then reached the final 12.6km circuit , tackled four times , in which the ascent of the village of Colla Micheri was the special observed .
Well, it was the Slovenian Jan Polanc (UAE Team Emirates), very good at recovering downhill just before the final finish, starting on the counterattack and also taking advantage of the presence of two other teammates in the leading group. In fact, with his shoulders the Spaniard Juan Ayuso and our Alessandro Covi classified in second and third position. A real triumph for UAE Team Emirates with three riders in the first three places. Also noteworthy is the excellent performance of Lorenzo Rota (Intermarché – Wanty – Gobert Matériaux), who finished fourth and forced to surrender due to the evident numerical inferiority in the good breakaway in which he found himself.
