Fight, European Championships 2022: first medal for Italy with Frank Chamizo, the path of the women’s categories begins


The blue medal table is finally unlocked at the end of the third day of competition of the 2022 European Wrestling Championships, taking place at the BOK Sports Hall in Budapest (in Hungary). On day-3 the last five titles in the men’s freestyle were awarded, while the preliminaries of the first five women’s categories were also held.


Second consecutive European title in 74 kg for Slovakian Tajmuraz Salkazanov, capable of defeating blue Frank Chamizo in the final act 7-5. Bronze medal to Georgian Giorgi Sulava and Azerbaijani Turan Bayramov.

In -86 kg Myles Amine continues to make history (after the podium in Tokyo 2021) and gives San Marino the first continental gold ever in wrestling , winning the decisive match against Azerbaijani Abubakr Abakarov for 9-5. The Turkish Osman Gocen and the Polish Sebastian Jezierzanski complete the podium in third place.

Nothing to do in the 125 kg for the Italian-Cuban Abraham Conyedo (bronze in Tokyo in the 97 kg), who lost his final for the bronze on points with the Polish Robert Baran. Third position in this race also for the Hungarian host Daniel Ligeti, while the Turkish Taha Akgul wins in the final 5-2 on the Georgian Geno Petriashvili grabbing the fifth European gold of his career.


Armenia triumphed in 61 kg , with Arsen Harutyunyan who imposed himself for manifest technical superiority in the final over the Turkish Suleyman Atli. Third position for the Bulgarian Georgi Vangelov and for the Polish Eduard Grigorev. In the 92 kg the Turkish Feyzullah Akturk wins the gold medal by clearly defeating the Bulgarian Ahmed Bataev 6-1. The Azerbaijani Osman Nurmagomedov and the Georgian Miriani Maisuradze share the third place on the podium.


In the 50 kg , in which the Italian Emanuela Liuzzi left the stage in the quarter-finals without repechage, the Bulgarian Miglena Selishka and the Turkish Evin Demirhan Yavuz will compete for the gold medal. In the 68 kg , Moldovan Irina Ringaci and Frenchwoman Pauline Lecarpentier will compete in the Final.

The Bel Paese will be represented in tomorrow’s evening session by Enrica Rinaldi (defeated in the quarterfinals but recovered), who will face the Romanian Catalina Axente with the European bronze in the 76 kg at stake. In this category the protagonists of the final will be the Turkish Yasemin Adar and the Estonian Epp Maee.


In the 55 kg the Ukrainian Oleksandra Khomenets and the Romanian Andreea Beatrice Ana reached the final for the continental title, while in the 59 kg (category in which the blue Morena De Vita was unable to overcome her group) they remain in contention for the gold medal went to Jowita Maria Wrzesien from Poland and Anastasia Nichita from Moldova.
