Ferrari flexed its muscles at the 2022 Bahrain GP , the first stage of the F1 World Championship that took place yesterday afternoon at the Sakhir circuit. The Prancing Horse celebrated an amazing double in the Middle East: Charles Leclerc won starting from pole position, Carlos Sainz finished in second position . The Scuderia di Maranello overwhelmed Red Bull (both cars retired due to reliability problems) and Mercedes (third with Lewis Hamilton).
A new era has begun, the revolutionary regulation was well interpreted by the team led by Mattia Binotto and the drivers were able to exalt themselves at the wheel of the Red. The group in the pits also took a step forward, given the efficiency of the pit stops: the speed of the stops was astounding , as evidenced by the feedback that then converges in the classification of the Fastest Pit Stop Award (the prize for the fastest pit stop).
Well Carlos Sainz’s mechanics completed the operations in 2.33 seconds, Charles Leclerc’s in 2.54 seconds. Only McLaren was able to do better (2.31 seconds for Daniel Ricciardo), but closed in the back. Red Bull had always been the leader in the fundamental in recent years, but in Bahrain they collapsed: 2.62 for Max Verstappen, 2.63 for Sergio Perez. Mercedes isn’t even in the top-10.
A sign of how much work has been done to improve in Maranello: Mattia Binotto spoke of even more than 1,300 tests carried out before Christmas. The fact that there are new tires has shifted the balance, the Pirelli tires in their new shape seem to be particularly popular with the men of Ferrari.
