Tomorrow, March 25, 2022, the 64th edition of the Saxo Bank Classic will be staged, the famous pavé classic entered in the World Tour circuit since 2012. The 204-kilometer course will properly test the legs of the riders in view of the Tour of Flanders on Sunday 3 April.
Sixteen walls to tackle, accompanied by eleven stretches of dirt road thickened after a third of the race. There is no shortage of some of the most glorious climbs in the region such as Paterberg , Oude Kwaremont , Eikenberg and the demanding Tiegemberg (750m at 5.6%, max 9%), the last difficulty of the day placed about 20 kilometers from the finish.
The blue success has been missing since 2009 when “Pippo” Pozzato won; Italy boasts four total victories with Guido Bontempi (1988), Mario Cipollini (1993) and Dario Pieri (2002) already registered, while Spain and France have yet to achieve their first triumph. Florian Senechal, one of the hot names of the event again this year, touched the acute in the past edition giving the scepter to Kasper Asgreen , in search of the back-to-back.
Favorite must be Wout Van Aert given the roadmap in the first part of the season. The fresh winner of the Milan-Sanremo Matej Mohoric, the Olympic gold medalist Greg Van Avermaet and the sprinter Alexander Kristoff will also play their cards , without forgetting the representatives of the Bel Paese Gianni Moscon and Davide Ballerini.
