Athletics, the seasonal world ranking of 60 meters. Marcell Jacobs fifth, lead a Bahamian and an American

Marcell Jacobs is fast approaching the Indoor World Championships , which will be staged in Belgrade (Serbia) on the weekend of 18-20 March. The 100-meter Olympic Champion is aiming for a bang on 60 meters , after winning the European title last season. The Messiah of Italian athletics has all the credentials to blow the bank in the Balkan soil, but he is well aware that the competition will be fierce and that he will have to pull out the maximum if he wants to get back on the top step of the podium.

Marcell Jacobs stood out in this first part of the season, making it clear that he has a good leg and still has ample room for improvement. In the first three international outings he did not shine at the start, also because he is studying advanced techniques: 6.51 in Berlin, 6.49 in Lodz, 6.50 in Lievin. Subsequently he won the Italian Championships with a time of 6.55, but then he ran into the controversial disqualification of Belgrade for false start.

At the moment Marcell Jacobs , who holds the Italian record of 6.47 (last year in Torun), occupies the fifth place in the world seasonal lists thanks to the 6.49 signed on 11 February in Lodz. At the command we find the 19 year old Terrence Jones from Bahamian, author of 6.45 in Lubbock (USA) last January 15th and the American Christian Coleman (6.45 at the National Championships on February 27th). Followed by two other Americans: Micah Williams (6.48 on January 15 in Spokane) and Marvin Bracy (6.48 on February 27 in Spokane).

If we consider not only the best performance for an athlete, but all the timed times recorded in the season, then Marcell Jacobs slips to sixth place, because Micah Williams boasts a double 6.48 and Christian Coleman also boasts the 6.49 in New York (January 29) as well as at 6.45 a few days ago. In the top-10, however, there would be three other performances by Marcell Jacobs: 6.50 by Lievin, 6.51 by Berlin and 6.51 by the battery in Lodz.
