The Junior World Championships staged on the Canadian snows of Panorama smiled at the Italian athletes, capable of winning five medals as did not happen in the Garmisch 2009 review. The undisputed king of the event was the 2001 class of Giovanni Franzoni, gold in downhill and combined and bronze in super-G, while the silvers of Marco Abbruzzese and Filippo Della Vite in combined and giant have contributed to enrich the tricolor booty.
The Technical Director of the youth sector Massimo Carca can only be satisfied, who wanted to emphasize the great work done in the last four years. This is his balance reported by the FISI: “It was a satisfactory World Cup not only for the results, but also for the atmosphere experienced because all the nations shared the same spaces in the village”.
“The general level is always higher, personally I have lived the last four years alongside these guys and their growth is there for all to see – continues the Piedmontese coach – There are people who do well in the European Cup and yes has already appeared in the World Cup, here, starting with more accessible numbers, the cards are reshuffled ”.
The brightest prospect of the Italian youth movement is undoubtedly Giovanni Franzoni, whose improvements are undeniable: “He is taking one step at a time, he has participated in all the giant competitions in the World Cup, he is a boy who does more disciplines and we must give it time to grow. His transition to a high level is a little more gradual than a Della Vite who participates in only one discipline ”.
Franzoni’s goal is to gain more experience even in the top circuit: “The next step is to be competitive in the World Cup, which Giovanni will attend continuously from next year in more specialties. We know that in the World Cup the tracks are much more difficult and it will be necessary to be patient, but in the supergiant he showed a higher level and the goal is to finish the European Cup in first place between now and the end of the season ”.
