Jorge Lorenzo gives himself to… cars. The former MotoGp ace will race at the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia with the outgoing champion Q8 team.
The call of the runway is obviously too strong to ignore. And so, after Valentino Rossi, Jorge Lorenzo also began a new career as a car driver . The former MotoGP star, five-time world champion, officially enters the ranks of the Q8 Hi Perform team. The Spaniard will compete in the Porsche Carrera Cup Italia 2022 single-make championship.
Called to Win
The competition, now in its sixteenth edition , will this year include another illustrious name, coming from the world championship. One of the protagonists expected at the gate will, in fact, be Jorge Lorenzo, eager to inaugurate a second chapter of his competitive career. “A new and stimulating phase of my life begins” , began the 1987 class, a native of Palma de Mallorca. “I thank the Q8 Hi Perform team for choosing and welcoming me: I can’t wait to get involved and prove my worth behind the wheel. We have a strong, close-knit and ambitious team. The goal will be to win as many races as possible “ .
The team is strong from the title won in 2021. The goal is to repeat itself , as explained by the Q8 marketing director, Gherardo Bisi: “We are a team with what it takes to compete and win. Jorge reflects the professional we were looking for and we have chosen him convinced that he can achieve excellent results even on four wheels “ .
The Porsche Carrera Cup Italia championship will kick off the dances on 13 April in Monza for the first official tests, while on the weekend of 7-8 May the cars will race in Imola , for the first of six scheduled stages. Subsequently, the show will continue in Misano (4-5 June), Mugello (16-17 July), Vallelunga (17-18 September), Franciacorta (1-2 October) and Monza (8-9 October). The races will be broadcast live on Sky channels or through the official portal of the event CarreraCupItalia.it.
